Sunday, after a long week away from home, George and Spencer took us out for “tea time” at the Mandarin Oriental. This is the swanky boat ride on the way home. Great day.
Raining on and off, the weather was perfect for an indoor evening. I rode past a cooking school and decided to give it a try. Our teacher “Pii Phap” was amiable and knowledgeable. Its rare to feel ‘cozy’ in Thailand as its always so warm- but somehow with the rain outside and delicious cooking inside, this was the overwhelming feeling.
Som tam (Papaya Salad). This was the spiciest thing I had ever eaten up until another som tam that was even worse (better?) the other day. We stopped for some lunch at the Ko Lanta Pier in Old Town Ko Lanta.
My perfect day. As it stared to rain- I ducked into a boat house that also served coffee and tea. Sat on the water watching the storm for awhile.
Motor-biking around the island, I found this overlook restaurant that had a great view and excellent food.
The best beach in Railay and one of the best in Thailand, we spent a few days relaxing here in between rock climbing and swimming.
View of Railay after trekking through the cliff in pitch darkness and before repelling down the cliff. We got lost in the jungle underneath the cliff as darkness fell. Then, after finding other hikers with torches, stumbled along jagged rock (in flip flops) back to our beach which was further away. It was quite a day.
